Michelin Star Ramen

7/10
Michelin Star Ramen

So we got our tickets at 8am this morning and now we're waiting in line at our timeslot, 12 noon. This was tasty ramen which I greatly enjoyed eating. However, I personally don't believe this was worth the hype. First of all I'm not an expert in what deserves a Michelin star but in my head it's the opposite of what good ramen is - greasy fast food. The soup was soy based and had truffle oil which was very unique although I'm not such a big fan of truffle even in European food. The noodles were soba and not the usual you get with ramen and I think that let it down as I really like ramen noodles. The meat was thin tasty strips of pork and there was a lovely egg and spring onions for toppings. The menma was long and stringy which I didn't like. Objectively this was very tasty but didn't do it for me as a bowl of ramen. Honestly I wouldn't recommend this, it's not worth the effort of getting a ticket early in the morning and then queueing again for 45 minutes to get in.

Salt Ramen in Shinjuku

7/10 Salt ramen in Shinjuku This was a solid flavourful soup with 3 types of delicious meat and 2 wantons. The toppings of menma and scallions were nice. The egg could have been better both in terms of marination and yolk softness. The noodles were the biggest let down for me. They were a nice thickness and firmness but lacked flavour. Overall a good ramen but didn't live up to its peers standards. 麺屋 翔 本店 7-chōme-22-34 Nishishinjuku, Shinjuku City, Tōkyō-to 160-0023 03-3364-5787 https://maps.app.goo.gl/DuBhJghxUjJFNNry8

Osaka Namba Number 1 (according to their sign)!

7/10 Osaka namba number 1 (according to their sign)! Ok, the first thing to mention here is the huge piece of pork rib. It's longer than the diameter of the bowl and super fatty. It tastes fantastic and melts in the mouth. The soup is tasty but leaning more to the average end of the scale. The noodles to are good but nothing to write home about. Overall, a solid bowl with one standout component complimented by average components.  Hanamaruken Namba Hozenji 1-chōme-2-1 Nanba, Chūō-ku, Osaka, 542-0076 06-6213-0131 https://maps.app.goo.gl/4kQzD3GUqZ9MJCFt5

Ramen Jiro Ikebukuro

7/10 Ramen Jiro Ikebukuro This was excellent ramen let down by my poor ordering choices. First of all the meat is great but getting the chasu was a mistake. Secondly I shouldn't have asked for garlic, there's just too much of it and the broth becomes uneatable after its all mixed in. Now the best part is the noodles which are super thick and delicious. The broth is super fatty and delicious. This combination would be great if I'd just got the normal ramen. There's also a fuck tone of bean sprouts even if you ask for normal. So this was good but I made it bad. Ramen Jiro 〒171-0022 Tōkyō-to, Toshima City, Minamiikebukuro, 2-chōme−27−17 1F 03-3980-0210 https://maps.app.goo.gl/UhcuAwHYRMZnBLRKA
